Regular Path Queries in Expressive Description Logics with Nominals

چکیده
Reasoning over complex queries in the DLs underlying OWL 2 is of importance in several application domains. We provide decidability and (tight) upper bounds for the problem of checking entailment and containment of positive regular path queries under various combinations of constructs used in such expressive DLs; specifically: regular expressions and (safe) Booleans over roles, and allowing for the combination of any two constructs among inverse roles, qualified number restrictions, and nominals. Our results carry over also to the DLs of the SR family, and thus have a direct impact on OWL 2.

Query Answering in the Horn Fragments of the Description Logics SHOIQ and SROIQ
The high computational complexity of the expressive Description Logics (DLs) that underlie the OWL standard has motivated the study of their Horn fragments, which are usually tractable in data complexity and can also have lower combined complexity, particularly for query answering. In this paper we provide algorithms for answering conjunctive 2-way regular path queries (2CRPQs), a nontrivial ge...
متن کاملThe Curse of Finiteness: Undecidability of Database-Inspired Reasoning Problems in Very Expressive Description Logics
Recently, the field of knowledge representation is drawing a lot of inspiration from database theory. In particular, in the area of description logics and ontology languages, interest has shifted from satisfiability checking to query answering, with various query notions adopted from databases, like (unions of) conjunctive queries or different kinds of path queries. Likewise, the finite model s...
متن کاملConjunctive Regular Path Queries in Lightweight Description Logics
Conjunctive regular path queries are an expressive extension of the well-known class of conjunctive queries and have been extensively studied in the database community. Somewhat surprisingly, there has been little work aimed at using such queries in the context of description logic (DL) knowledge bases, and all existing results target expressive DLs, even though lightweight DLs are considered b...
